This past Monday, the Chicago Foundation for Education honored Alex Kmicikewycz, Math and Science educator at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep, with its 2020 Debby Jannotta and Shirley Jaffee Teacher of the Year Award. 

Along with CFE staff and community members, Alex’s family, colleagues, friends, and students honored him with a surprise virtual presentation of this esteemed honor. The evening was filled with messages of appreciation and gratitude for Alex’s dedication to his students and commitment to his teaching practice. 

Alex’s involvement with CFE has included a 2016 Fund for Teacher Fellowship, a presentation at the 2019 CFE Workshop on “Lessons Learned from a Passion Project Genius Hour Program”, and an active membership with CFE’s Auxiliary Board. He is an outstanding educator who goes above and beyond to create meaningful relationships with his students, to support his colleagues and school community, and to influence broader education policy initiatives.
