On April 10, 2022 in Memphis, Tennessee, the Brooks Chess Team won their first USCF National K-12 trophy.
The teacm came in 19th Place in the U1200 section. This is a great honor for the Chess Team and the school.
Congratulations to team members:
- Team Captain David Perez: Top Board
- Isabella Garza: 2nd Board
- Melissa De Loera: 3rd Board
- Kendall Shepard: 4th Board
- Mark Rodriguez
Brooks Chess was only one of two Illinois Chess Teams to make it to the top 20 in the U1200 section. This was a three day tournament with seven rounds. Each round can take more than 4 hours to finish in the Nationals. Most games take over two to three hours to finish. It takes a lot of commitment, focus, and intensity to win a game in the Nationals.
Congratulations to the Brooks Chess Team and to Coach Jose Garza.
