"Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, through the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the world, and with each other." -Paulo Freire
Hello! My name is Allison Gillick, and I am a member of the English department. I love working with high school students, and I am excited to be a part of the Brooks' community.
My passion comes from the challenge of everyday, the mutual teaching and learning amongst students and staff, the varied interpretations and discussions surrounding literature, and the life experiences of my students and myself.
I attended Villanova University in Philadelphia, where I earned my Bachelors of Art in English. From there I continued my studies at DePaul University where I earned my Masters of Art in English and my Masters of Education with a concentration in Secondary Education. I am currently pursuing further education at the University of Illinois.
I was born in Woodbury Heights, New Jersey (just south of Philadelphia). I played tennis at Villanova; however, these days, I enjoy playing social tennis, volleyball, and basketball, and I really enjoy baseball, especially the Cubs! I also enjoy reading, writing, traveling to visit friends and family, and embarking on new adventures. I am passionate about my family & friends, my students, my dogs (and cats), animal rights, classic rock, the importance of laughter, and the Golden Rule. My favorite Be of Brooks is BE YOURSELF.
