Track Advances to City

The Boys Cross Country team soars to another victory as they qualify for the City Championships. The team, led by Coach Muhummad, has trained long and hard to get to where they are today, as did the Girls Track & Field, who led us to 1st place at the invite. As they prepare for the upcoming event, they need your support. Cheer the team next Saturday at Washington Park. The race starts at 8:00 a.m.

President Barack Obama at Brooks!

On Thursday, February 19, President Barack Obama defied the ice cold of minus zero temperatures to announce the designation of Pullman Village (three blocks east of Brooks) as a National Park. Other two sites, Browns Canyon in Colorado and the Honouliuli Internment Camp in Hawaii, were also designated. (View a photo gallery of the event here.)

Life of a Junior at Gwendolyn Brooks

ACT, AP classes, the constant reminder of college in the back of your mind, and to top it off plenty extracurricular activities to spice up your transcript. Junior year has just begun and I can vouch that it has been and probably will be one of the hardest of my high school years. The biggest concept that I struggle with is the desire of independence, and freedom to grow up and prepare for college; while on the other hand all I want is to be in middle school again and have no worries.

First Day: Brooks at Brooks

The first day of school at Brooks varies with each class. The freshmen are nervous, yet open minded, the sophomores are happy that they’re no longer labeled as freshmen, the juniors are nonchalant due to the routine they know will soon hit, and the seniors felt superior and eager to graduate come June. Although we all feel  different about the first day, there’s one thing that we all had in common: disappointment in the early return.
