Brooks Video Production and Digital Media students attended the first Facets Films Chicago Film Summit which was hosted by the Oscar and Emmy nominated Gregory Nava.

Bursting onto the scene with EL NORTE, called "the first epic in the history of American independents" by Variety and "a Grapes of Wrath for our time" by Roger Ebert, Nava went onto helm the Oscar-nominated MY FAMILY (MI FAMILIA) before casting the then unknown Jennifer Lopez in her first starring role in the critically acclaimed SELENA.

In 1995, El Norte was selected by the National Film Registry for preservation being a "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant film" and in 2016, Nava was appointed to the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

Student participated in a round table discussion with the director, screened several clips with the director from his various movies and then screened El Norte with a question and answer following.
