On January 14, 2016, Dartonya Wright, from Brooks, was honored as the first place winner in the 2015 edition of The Stock Market Game.
Dartonya and other students from schools around the city presented to members of the Chicago Board Options Exchange their results with fictitious money investments they made months prior.
Each student was given an initial sum of $100,000 to invest on The Stock Market Game website. The site reports real gains and losses in stocks but allows users to use "fake" money as a way to test someone's ability to invest in successful companies.
In the 9-12 grade division, which included members from 84 teams from high schools around the city of Chicago, Dartonya took first place, with a gain of $13,967 (fake money, remember!).
Congratulations to Dartonya for a great display of her money smarts! We wish her all the success in the future, hopefully being able to invest and gain just as much in real money!
The program is sponsored by Econ Illinois, the UIC Center for Economic Education, BMO Harris Bank, the sifma Foundation and The Telos Group LLC.
