
Brooks Alumni and Parents,
I am emailing you today to notify you of an Emergency Fund for Transition to College that Children First Fund has donated to financially assist the Class of 2020 at Chicago Public Schools who find themselves in temporary and unexpected financial hardship due to circumstances beyond their control. Grants are made based on urgency of the need and available funding and only after all other funding resources/options have been exhausted.
Students can receive microgrants of $50-$500 to help pay for expenses such as books, college registration fees, and travel. Other college related costs and requests for a larger microgrant level will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
ELIGIBILITY
To be considered for emergency funds a student must:
- Be a member of the graduating class of 2020 at Chicago Public Schools
- Plan to enroll at a community college or university that awards a degree or trade credential
- Have a Learn.Plan.Succeed. plan loaded in Naviance
- Submit a copy of the financial aid award letter from the institution that the student will attend in fall 2020
- Submit evidence of need (Examples: bill, invoice, itinerary, evidence documenting cost)
HOW TO APPLY?
Students must complete the Emergency Fund for Transition to College-Brooks Internal Form After form is submitted, Brooks Counseling Team will submit an application on behalf of our students.
HOW ARE FUNDS DISTRIBUTED?
Applications will be processed within ten (10) business days of receipt of application. If awarded, receipt of award could take an additional fifteen (15) days. Each student beneficiary and the CPS staff person who submitted the request will receive notification once a determination has been made. This communication will include guidance on pick up location, date and time.
