Beginning next school year, Brooks College Prep will open its doors to talented seventh and eighth-grade students from across the city.
Brooks will be expanding to include an Academic Center – a learning environment with an accelerated curriculum that includes high-school level coursework. In addition to rigorous instruction, students enrolled in the District’s Academic Centers are guaranteed admission to a selective enrollment high school.
“The expansion at Brooks will create a new high-quality option on the far south side while establishing a continuum for accelerated academic programs at the school,” said CPS CEO Forrest Claypool.
Ranked #16 in the state by U.S. News and World Report, Brooks attracts high-performing students from throughout the city. Through inquiry-based instruction and cooperative learning, the school strives to prepare its students to be global leaders, offering an enriching academic experience and a wide variety of extracurricular activities.
By adding programing for seventh and eighth-grade students, Brooks will become the seventh high school in the District to house an Academic Center. The expansion will begin with seventh-grade students next fall and will add eighth-graders in SY 17-18.
“This expansion will allow Brooks to grow to its full potential,” said Brooks principal D’Andre Weaver. “Our students are already graduating and going on to pursue bright futures, which is why we are grateful for this investment that will now prepare seventh and eighth-graders for the rigors of a college preparatory high school environment so that they too can graduate college ready and college bound.”
